Every day is an Adventure!
Every day is an Adventure!

Bad News, Butterfly

By: Melissa Conkey

It was a hard day, an emotional day. So much was coming at me so fast and all at once. We had just parked the car. Dinner could wait. I needed to go on a walk. I needed to spend time alone with the One who knows me best.

“Honey, I need to go for a walk. Is it okay if I go on a walk?”

I asked my beloved husband.

He in turned answered, “Yes.”

My husband knows me so well. He understands that sometimes I just need to breathe. Going for a walk with God’s beautiful creation around me, helps me breathe, helps me let go of all that tries to pull me down, so I can keep trekking through whatever comes next.

Everything was beautiful around me. It was early evening. The sky was breathtaking as always.

“God, you did it again!” was what I usually would say.

Instead, being a mess, I did the only thing I knew to do. My heart ran into the arms of my Daddy. My voice rattled on and on to the One who knows all, the One who understands all, the One who is Sovereign. I poured out all my troubles before the throne of Grace, knowing that I was safe doing so for I had been there many times before.

Faithful. This is a character trait of my God, the One true God, the One true Living God.

The best part is that He is also my Beloved Friend, my Abba Daddy, my King, my Savior, my Lord.

I love Lord Jesus!

I don’t always understand everything. But God is so very patient. He knows how I understand what I see, hear, touch, etc.

Any who, there I was walking along, pouring my heart out, praying for help, for answers, for peace in the Storm. My eyes were like two cloud bursts. Tears rained down my face, kissed my cheeks. I started walking up a hill, not sure I could keep walking. Then I saw it.

The “It” I saw was one of the saddest sights, at least for me. For anyone who knows me well would know I love butterflies. Butterflies are very special to my heart. As a symbolic person, I view butterflies as a reminder of two things: 1) Butterflies remind me of New Life in Christ and Freedom in that Life. It is a Life that begins when a person lays him/herself down and puts his/her faith and trust in Lord Jesus as Savior and Lord; when a person opens the door and Lord Jesus walks in. 2) Butterflies also remind me of God’s love that is always for me, of His Faithfulness.

“Butterflies, a symbol, of New Life, reminds me that Jesus loves me and is with me day and night.” This is a line in a song that God gave to me. So, as one can see, I love Butterflies. Therefore, seeing something horrible as what I saw after crying and laying down my burdens, wasn’t exactly peaceful like I hoped. Not at first that is.

There on the sidewalk was a beautiful butterfly. It’s wings were spread out. It looked like it had momentarily landed on the ground. Alas! The butterfly was being eaten by ants!!!! Somehow part of the butterfly was crushed. The wings were intact, but…. It was horrifying!!!

“God, you know I love butterflies! Why am I seeing this? This is horrible! I don’t understand.”

I sat there not far from the butterfly, wondering what it all meant. Then after a bit I got up and started to walk back. That’s when the answer came. Everything is made for a purpose. The butterfly was fulfilling it’s own purpose. That was what it was made for…to be beautiful, to do what butterflies do, and to end up as some ants’ dinner.

“Melissa, you are not that butterfly. You are meant to soar, to fly.”

It occurred to me, as God granted me understanding and wisdom, that there are people out there that are not living up to the fullness of all God made them to be. They are loved by God. And they know that God loves them. But they aren’t spending time with Him. They don’t know Him as Friend.

There are those who are know Jesus as Savior, but they are allowing Fears, Deception, Stress, Insecurity, and the Love of other things, consume them and keep them from being who they are meant to be: FREE!

Everything was made by God. Everything was made for God. And God’s plans for people is much more than what anyone can imagine. It begins with Love. It begins with Faith. It begins with Hope. It is FREEDOM. It is NEW LIFE in Christ.  It is FRIENDSHIP with the One who Created all!

And so, peace floods my heart. From pouring out my heart, I was not emptied. I was only set free even more. And my cup was filled with Song! So I sang. And Joy was my melody.

Thank God for butterflies! Thank God for Lord Jesus! And Jesus is God!

Bible verses:

Colossians 1:16 New King James

”For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”

Inspired and Delighted

I was taking a walk today with my son. It was a cloudy, sunny day. The air was cold, but for walking, perfect. I pushed him in the stroller down the street, past a park, up a hill, over a bridge, talking all the while about what we were doing and what there was to see around us. I love going on walks. I love the outdoors. It’s so much fun to go outside, breathe fresh air, and just enjoy looking at the beauty of God’s Creation that’s singing out His praises in every way.

We eventually got to a traffic light and waited to cross the street. After crossing the street, we turned to the left and started walking for him some place new. Everything was so lovely, once in a while, we’d stop so mommy could take some photos. I asked him, “What do you think we will see? Maybe we will see a bird.” Just then, a beautiful bird appeared momentarily before flying off into a nearby tree. Well, look at that!

There were a few people also on morning walks. “Hello!”, I’d say to each . Some seemed less eager to reply. Perhaps busy in thought? Anyways, it was a lovely day for a walk. Eventually, we had to turn around and go back the way we came. I began to sing my favorite hymn. And then it happened! On the bridge I looked down at the water below and saw a gorgeous reflection of the sky. I thought about taking a picture. But we were on the bridge and so I continued to push the stroller. Then, I stopped. I couldn’t help but look at that reflection again.

That’s when it came to my heart. 2 Corinthians 3:18. A verse I had been chewing on since Sunday. And suddenly without words I knew what it all meant: the water’s reflection, the sky above. It was a message of encouragement from the Spirit of Truth.

The reflection was so beautiful I couldn’t stop staring at it until I took a picture. But it was not as gorgeous as the image it reflected. The sky was heavenly! And as we continued across the bridge, the more gorgeous the water’s reflection became. We are like that water. For all who believe the name of Jesus, the Son of God, Our Risen Savior, Lord and King, we too are a reflection; our lives are a reflection of the Glory of God! This reflection is Gorgeous! It is best seen in Faith. It is our lives, living out that faith in God. But, as gorgeous as that reflection is, it is not nearly as heavenly as the real deal Glory that it reflects!

But believe me when I say, according to God’s Word, we are being transformed into that Glory! And we will be made heavenly too! How awe-inspiring is that?! How incredible! Such love from God for His children!

In Psalm 139, God says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are beautiful! You are wonderful! You are treasured and cherished by the One who made you! I want to encourage you with that.

Maybe, instead of looking in the mirror and staring at what we think are flaws, look deeper and recognize who you already are: Gorgeous! Because in Christ, you are! And if you haven’t received His Grace and Love yet, it’s not too late. God loves you. Jesus died on the Cross for you too! And it is a free gift; God’s grace for all who believe in Jesus the Christ, the Son of God.

Here is a poem that God gave to me to share with you. I hope it encourages you.

Blessings!

Reflection

Look in the mirror

What do I see?

I see Your Glory already in me.

Before this I was like an ugly weed

Taking up room

Useless and despised by the rest

Unwanted at best

But then You came

And took the weeds away

Planted something new in my heart

That’s still blooming today.

I am beautiful and cherished by the Creator

To others I look small and weak

A little tree that could topple over

In a great big breeze

But I bend with the wind

I’m covered in Grace

I dance in the trials

I laugh in the pain.

I am more than what used to be

And when I see my reflection

It’s You in me!

Yes, I was an ugly weed taking up room

Useless and hated, unwanted, unloved

So it seemed.

But then you came and said

NO!

And made me beautiful.

You tossed the weeds away and planted

Something wonderful in me

A Seed in my heart

Your Word, sprinkled with Faith;

I’m touched in Your Grace.

Yes, when I look in the mirror I see

Your Glory already shining in me;

A view of what will be

So much more than what appears to be!

I am changed

I am new

I am cherished and treasured by You.

God of Creation,

Lover of my Soul,

In You, Lord Jesus, I am whole!

Loved by the One who knows me

Bridged the Gap

Set me Free

Called me Daughter

Called me Friend.

I am Strong

And I belong

To the Great I AM!

Look in the mirror

What do you see?

God loves you truly

Open your heart and let Him in

And you will be God’s dearly loved friend

Faith in Lord Jesus

The Bridge, The Way

The Good Shepherd who cares for me every day

Our Savior who made the way

To be forevermore

A Child of the KING of GLORY.

Scripture that Connects:

2 Corinthians 3:15-18 KJV

"But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."

John 10:14-18,27-30 KJV

"I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

I and my Father are one."

Dr. Strange, Not So Strange

Hey all!

Did you know that I enjoy Marvel movies? Did you know that I like to talk about Marvel movies? Well, I totally do. But maybe not always in the way someone might think.

My hubby and I are totally nerdy when it comes to such topics.

So, if you are too...this might interest you! I was totally amazed when he revealed this to me.

He, meaning Abba.

Okay, so the movie Dr. Strange is an interesting one. For those who don't know and for recap sake, Dr. Strange is a movie about a top-notch doctor who has an accident of sorts and loses pretty much everything. I figure there's no spoilers here because this movie came out in 2016.

Any who, Dr. Strange goes on an epic journey to find help. He wants his life back, the life he once had. However, what he soon discovers is that there's much more out there in the world than he previously understood and gets wrapped up into mysticism.

Okay, let's be frank for a moment. I am not into mysticism at all. So when my hubby saw this movie, he wasn't sure I'd be into it. What's funny was I went to see it anyways. It sounded interesting.

The part that really got me in the movie though (because first time watching it was a struggle. Again, not into mysticism at all.) was something that my Abba revealed to me.

Near the end of the film Dr. Strange faces his greatest threat thus far...Dormammu.

Dormammu consumes worlds. I'd describe the villain as dark energy.

Now this Dormammu has a following who want the thing to consume earth (talk about false light!).

So here comes the planet eater/destroyer. People are screaming. Buildings are collapsing. And battles are being fought. Suddenly, Dr. Strange (who has the time stone) gets an idea.

And that's where it happens. He uses time to keep coming back to face Dormammu. Dormammu kills him, of course. But he can't get rid of Dr. Strange. He keeps going back in time in a time loop to try to talk to the creature of darkness.

This picture of sacrificing himself to save the world (because Dormammu can't destroy Earth. He's dealing with Dr. Strange who won't stay dead), this picture is why I wanted to write this article.

Dr. Strange in this scene is being killed over and over again. He is going through torture to save the world, to protect people he doesn't even know, nice people and evil people, young and old, rich and poor, because he is a hero.

The amazing thing is...Did you know this happened before in real life?!!!!

I'm not talking crazy here. The world was facing its Death date and a hero stepped up and made the ultimate sacrifice to save it! But unlike Dr. Strange, this hero I'm speaking about only Died Once and came back to Life 3 days later!

The ultimate act of love, sacrifice, and heroics displayed by One person who is greater than a superhero because He is God! That's right! His name is JESUS.

Just like Dr. Strange, JESUS went through torture to save the world and the people in it from the Destroyer and from Death. But JESUS is also not like Dr. Strange. Dr. Strange is fictional. JESUS IS REAL. HE IS THE LIVING GOD.

Something else interesting is, when Dr. Strange saves the world in the fictional Marvel Universe, most people don't know he even did it. Some probably hate him for it.

And today, many don't know that in reality God loves them. God loves you! And JESUS is the Savior of the World.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." John 3:16-17 KJV

"And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life." 1 John 5:20 KJV

"And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" Acts 16:31a KJV

God is giving you a gift. That FREE gift can only be yours if you believe and receive it. That Gift is found in Lord Jesus, God the Son. It is the Gift of His Grace.

The people who followed the villain in the movie thought they were getting a reward, something better. They believed the lie. Almost everyone paid for it. But going back into reality for a moment, there is only one WAY to God the Father and all that is GOOD, and that is through the ultimate sacrifice of JESUS the Christ (aka Savior).
